On December 27, I visited The Stand in Branford, Connecticut. I went with two friends on the day after Boxing Day. It has a classic American barn décor, and includes a restaurant with a bar and a small stage for live performances. The weather was cold outside, but the restaurant had a warm and friendly vibe to it.
I ordered 0.23 kilograms (½ pound) of pulled pork in a bowl with macaroni and cheese and turkey stuffing. My friend, Mr. C, ordered the same thing but with salad instead of stuffing. Mr. D, another friend, ordered the pulled pork on a sandwich with slice of corn bread.
We all enjoyed our meals. The lunch menu was small and simple, but the food was decent enough. This is not fine cuisine, but it was a nice representation of small town Americana. More side dish choices would have been welcomed.
We did not check out the bar, although there seemed to be a good selection of alcohol. There was no live music at the time of our 1:30 PM visit. If I return, I would come for a late-night drink. The shortness of the menu does not make The Stand a viable dinner option.
The food at The Stand was tasty and the restaurant had a very comfortable vibe to it. It is right on the edge of the saltwater marsh, which would have been a very pretty view if the weather had been nicer. However, the lunch menu leaves much to be desired. My suggestion: come for drinks at night with friends, but go elsewhere for nourishment.
