It is not a secret that I love a good brunch restaurant. When I was in college, I routinely drove to The Tea Kettle in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. On December 30, I returned for a mid-morning meal.
I was very sad to see that they had removed the quiche from their menu. It was the best item! However, I instead ordered the Eggs Benedict with hollandaise sauce, which come with home fries.
In South Korea, I have noticed that brunch can mean a number of different things. I have seen pizza, steak, and even carbonara pasta advertised as brunch items. While I have no problem with “Seoul-style brunches” serving all sorts of yangsik (western food), this is very different from traditional brunches in the United States. These include egg dishes, toast, pastries, and often mimosas–champagne mixed with orange juice.
It was raining outside, but the atmosphere of the restaurant was very warm. It is only a short drive from Interstate 95, Route 9, and the local train station. You can get $20.00 (₩22,700) worth of food for only $16.00 (₩18,100) with a coupon from the Yelp page.
The meal was delicious: the eggs and Canadian bacon were cooked sufficiently, and served in between two English muffins. There was just enough hollandaise sauce to dip my home fries, as well. Further, the size of the meal was just right: I left feeling not hungry, but not painfully full.
The Tea Kettle is a cute, small town brunch café. I wish that it would expand its operations into serving dinner, as well. If you are in the area, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
