The Library, Jangchung-dong

Hotel restaurants can be easy to miss. If you’re staying in the hotel, you can easily overlook them in lieu of other local establishments. If you’re not staying in a hotel, you might not even know about them. Hotel restaurants are frequently pricy as well. On March 7, I decided to have brunch at The Library, a restaurant in Hotel Shilla, one of the most famous hotels in Korea.

Despite being called The Library, there are no books that I could see. It is set up as a lounge near to the main lobby of the hotel itself. People sit in armchairs around small tables and can watch live music play. When I was there, two Russian-speaking performers were playing classical music.

As I am an avid fan of brunch, I opted for an omelette. I ordered it to be cooked with bacon, ham, and cheese. The menu was quite extensive, and even advertised a course set for tea time. Although tempted, I stuck with my standard brunch fare.

The presentation was a bit lacking. It was served with three measly pieces of asparagus, a few sad-looking roast potatoes, and a shriveled cooked tomato. The omelette itself was disappointing as well. It was too thick and lacked in flavor. It was not difficult to eat, but it was certainly not worth the money I paid for it.

While I cannot comment on other parts of Shilla Hotel, I was disappointed with the food at The Library. The atmosphere is nice, the live music was relaxing, and the service was impeccable. However, the below-average food mixed with the above-average price was a severe disappointment.
