Dom’s Broad Street Eatery (Windsor, CT, U.S.A.)

In the past, I’ve written about the restaurant options in Windsor, Connecticut:

When I was in high school, there were four restaurants within walking distance: The Whistle Stop Café, Windsor 75 Diner, Giovanni’s Restaurant, and Union Street Tavern.

However, I was wrong: there were five. I forgot to mention Dom’s Broad Street Eatery, a local brunch restaurant. I decided to rectify this by visiting on December 29.

Perhaps the reason I forgot to include Dom’s before was that it is not a dinner restaurant. It exclusively serves breakfast and lunch. Dom’s closes at 2pm every day, except on Sundays when it closes at 1pm. While people living in big cities might find this odd, having such hours is quite common with local establishments.

I went with my significant other, Ms. R, around noon, so we opted to order from their lunch menu. I ordered the “Mad Dog”–a hot dog dish–with French fries, and Ms. R decided to order the chicken melt sandwich with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. We were impressed with the length of the menu and the variety of options.

At Dom’s, people pay for their bill at the front of the restaurant when the meal is finished. This might seem normal to Korean readers of my blog, but in the United States, this is unusual for sit-down restaurants. Generally speaking, most sit-down restaurants require the waiter to bring you the bill, retrieve your credit card or cash, and then bring you the receipt. If you want to pay with Apple Pay, the process can be even more complicated. Furthermore, you have to wait for the waiter to serve you. I was glad to see Dom’s taking a smarter approach to this issue.

The food was scrumptious and filling. The “Mad Dog” was a chili cheese dog with onions. While it was gooey and delectable on its own, the French fries were out of this world. Salty, crunchy, and fresh! It is hard to describe what made them so noteworthy, but they left me wanting more. Ms. R enjoyed her chicken melt sandwich, saying that it was buttery and flavorful, but a bit too greasy.

Dom’s Broad Street Eatery is an excellent little brunch restaurant. It might not be worth traveling long distances for, but it serves high quality food and exceeds expectations. I cannot recommend the French fries highly enough!
