As I have written about before, Connecticut has the best pizza in the United States. New Haven style pizza is loved by locals and tourists alike for its brick oven, thin crust, oblong-shaped, slightly-charred style. While Pepe’s Pizza in New Haven is usually the top ranked, there is another place I prefer: Alforno Ristorante in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. On December 30, I visited with my mother and my father.
We decided to order a Pizza Napolitano Vera with sausage on top. It only comes in a 30.5cm size. While we were waiting, Italian bread with olives, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil was served. The bread was so good that it was difficult to stop eating it!
The pizza itself was delectable. It was less greasy than at Pepe’s, and served with higher quality ingredients. Despite being New Haven style, it is served in a circular shape. My only regret is that I did not eat more; my parents snagged the leftovers!
Alforno Ristorante does not look like much from the outside; however, on the inside, it is a chic Italian restaurant serving my favorite pizza in Connecticut. There is also a bar, as well as a porch open in the warmer months. Going to this restaurant is a must!
