OK Burger, Yeouido

Yeouido might be known for having the (formerly) tallest building in Korea, the National Legislature, and cherry blossoms, but not for the outstanding food. However, legislators and businesspeople have to eat too. On June 25, some friends and I found our way over to the surprisingly satisfying OK Burger in Yeouido.

The restaurant is actually in the basement of a building near to the IFC Mall. I would be lying if I did not mention that I was a bit skeptical. My significant other, Ms. R, and my friend, Ms. S, also seemed to be doubting my pick. I am glad to have proved them wrong! Rather than being dim and grimy, the restaurant’s interior was bright and clean.

Ms. S ordered the Mexican Burger and Ms. R ordered the BBQ Burger. I ordered the namesake OK Burger. We all split a side of onion rings, as well. We did not have to wait for long, as the food arrived shortly.

These are not small burgers. They are stacked to the brim with meat, toppings, and condiments. In fact, Ms. S’s burger came complete with a deep-friend hot pepper inside of it. I had to use a fork and a knife to eat mine. Ms. S made fun of me.

All three of us were amazed at how good the burgers tasted. Ms. S and I, both U.S. citizens, agreed that these were the best burgers we had eaten since moving to South Korea. The patty itself tasted fresh and its consistency was solid, but not rubbery. It was an amazing balance.

The onion rings came out midway through the meal. Just as one should not serve the best wine last, they should have been served before the burgers arrived. The onion rings were comparatively lackluster, but still tasty. The onion rings themselves were especially thick and crunchy.

Honestly, OK Burger in Yeouido is worth making a trip across the city for. The service was efficient, perhaps because you order and pay before receiving your food. The location might be a bit tricky to find, but it is worth it. To reiterate – this is the best burger I’ve had in Korea. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
